CD Production
Steve has produced a wide variety of musical styles for artists worldwide, from Japan to Slovenia. Here is a small selection of projects Steve has been involved with through the years, with some personal comments from him.

Mario Frangoulis - (2002) “Sometimes I Dream” Cross-Over Classical (#4 Billboard)

Peter Asher was acting as Executive Producer for Mario’s first project on Sony Classical and Sting’s manager Miles Copeland, who knew I was experienced at blending pop and orchestral elements, suggested I produce the CD. An amazing experience for me to work with such a talented, accomplished, artistic, and funny guy as Mario. He is truly unique in his ability to bridge the gap between contemporary and classical genres. I also roped Justin Hayward into doing a duet with Mario on his iconic composition “Nights In White Satin” with a beautiful Italian translation by Luisa Zappa.

Kenny Loggins - (1992) “Leap of Faith” Kenny Loggins
(#6 Billboard - Gold Record)

My favorite artistic peak for Kenny, done with him when I was musical director. Here is a piece of the #6 single “If You Believe” we co-wrote, that was edited out. It’s an a capella intro featuring Kenny, Sheryl Crow, Ruth Pointer and Siedah Garrett. Also on the track were John Robinson, Richard Tee, Herman Matthews, Paul Jackson Jr. David Lindley, Freddie Washington. Next is another song we wrote together, “Sweet Reunion” featuring amazing keyboard work by Greg Phillinganes. Ah when record companies were record companies and artists had budgets!

Jack Tempchin - (1996) “Lonely Midnight” California Rockin’ Blues

Ever been a fan of someone who you thought was great but only you and a few select people knew it? Ever have that ruined when that person got really famous and the closest you could get was 100 rows back? We knew Jack had written “Peaceful Easy Feelin’” and a string of other hits for the Eagles and Glenn Frey as well as hits for Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris, George Jones and Johhny Rivers. I produced this CD with a host of heavy hitters including Greg Leisz, just playing down the tracks with no overdubs or re-dos on the solos. And then I’ll be darned if Jack just didn’t stay as unfamous and accessible as ever. (Somebody really blew it in the promo department I think.) Jack has had some recent covers by Jay Z and Coolio(!)

Hilary Stagg - (1998) “Sweet Return” New Age
(#3 Billboard)

This was the last CD million-selling artist Hilary recorded before his tragic death. I had never worked with anyone who hoped that the listener would fall asleep while listening to their music! But he had a tremendous following of people dedicated to the dream-like state he so easily elicited. A pioneer in the new age field, Hilary wanted to expand the horizons of these dreams. We tried to slighty focus the images with strong melodies and influences not normally found in this style. He was a truly gentle soul and a good friend.
